According to the Global Road Safety Report, 2015, more than 1.2 million people die on the world’s roads each year, making road traffic injuries a leading cause of deaths in low and middle-income countries where rapid economic growth has resulted in increased motorization and road traffic injuries. It has been recognized as a development issue, in addition to being a public health problem, with low and middle-income economies losing almost 3% of their GDP to losses due to road crashes.
